Formal Education – will be provided by local education providers such as at the bottom of this webpage. These courses will normally finish with a recognised qualification. The cost of these courses would be dependent on numbers who wish to do the course, but do not let that be a deterrent to your study as we often get reductions on courses through the CWU & Union Learn (restricted to membership) including adult education to Degree via the Open University.
Informal Education – this would be run by the branch itself by people who would want to share knowledge. Currently what we have planned is Genealogy, Microsoft Excel, Social Media (such as Facebook, Twitter & Skype), Digital Photography and basic PC skills. With Informal education there are secondary benefits that is not instantly recognised, e.g. with genealogy you search databases (to search for relatives via census), thinking outside the box (finding other ways when reaching a dead end), fitness (exploring graveyards, church records, libraries, electoral lists), organisation (storing your records), presentation (how you show your records), communication (by involving others to assist your search) and PC Skills (the best way to gather info).
