Merger Update

We shortly expect to announce a postal ballot regarding the possible merger of three South East CWU branches into one, as per our recently emailed/posted to your home address.

To create a new branch, there has to be three controlling documents agreed upon before the branch can form, so we have included them on this page so you will know what the rules of the new branch will be governed by.

Any comments please forward to any branch officer.

All members would have received an email or if we didn’t have an email, a letter sent to you home Address which said the following:

We would like to inform you that our Branch is currently in discussions with the Portsmouth, West Sussex and Isle of Wight, and Meridian Branches regarding a potential merger of the three Branches into one.

The primary reason for this proposed merger is the loss of Branch Officers over the past few years, which has significantly reduced our available resources. A merger would strengthen our capacity by bringing together more people to assist and support members. Additionally, it offers greater efficiency from an organisational perspective.

Please be assured that your agreement, in the form of a vote, will be sought before any merger is finalised. To facilitate this, we will discuss this issue at the AGM and if necessary a separate video meeting, to discuss the details should there be any concerns.

We will keep you updated on any developments. The current date of the proposed merger is June 1st 2025.

Regards

South East Central CWU

It might be that the date of merger moved to an earlier date than initially envisaged – subject to a successful postal ballot result.
